Door43:Legal Information
From Door43
This means that you are free:
to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work to anyone, anywhere, anytime
to Remix — to adapt the work and create new works based off the Door43 content
Under the following conditions:
Attribution — You must attribute the source of the original work to Door43 (with a link to http://door43.org) but not in any way that suggests that Door43 endorses you or your use of the work. Derivative works that conflict with the Door43 Statement of Faith are strongly discouraged and should not contain any reference or attribution to Door43.
Share Alike — If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar license to this one.
Practically speaking
So what does this mean? It means you are pre-cleared and free to do just about anything with any content on the Door43 website, for any ministry purpose, including (but not limited to):
- Posting as much of it as you want on your own website.
- Printing unlimited copies and giving them to anyone, without needing to request permission or notify us.
- Adapting the content for your own ministry needs — need to change some paragraphs around? Add additional content (maybe to improve relevancy or clarity for your target audience)? Take out some pieces that aren't needed (or could miscommunicate) to your target audience? Go for it!
- E-mailing, text messaging, Twittering, blogging, podcasting, etc. as much of it as you want, anywhere in the world, in any language
- Creating applications for mobile phones, computers, gaming stations, etc. that display the content of the Door43 website
- Want to bundle the Door43 content in your iPhone Bible study application? Please do! Want to pull the content over-the-air directly from door43.org? You are welcome to!
- Be creative in the use of Door43 content for ministry...
The only requirements of this license are listed above: point a link back to http://door43.org (Attribution) and release what you create with Door43 content under the same license, so that unrestricted content stays unrestricted (Share Alike).
Use of the Door43 name
The name "Door43" and all the names of the Door43 projects (e.g. "Open Bible Translation", "Open Bible Stories", "Open Bible School", "Open Study Notes", "Open Bible Handbook", "Open Christian Library", "Open Worship Project", etc.) are reserved and may only be used in a derivative work if the content of the derivative work is unmodified from the content on the Door43 website at the time the work was created. An example: a mobile phone application that compiles Door43 content into a format for use on mobile devices can use the name "Door43" in the name of the application because the content is taken directly from the Door43 website without modification. However, a Bible study guide that is created using content from the Door43 website with modifications and additions to it may not use the name "Door43" or any of the Door43 project names to identify the derivative work. It must, however, attribute the original work with a link to the Door43 website, e.g. "This work includes content from the Door43 project, http://door43.org"
Why is this important?
Door43 is designed to encourage peer-review of discipleship resources. With many eyes looking at the content being created in this wiki, errors are easy to spot and correct. We also have editors who carefully check the content for accuracy before it "goes live" which helps to ensure that while anyone can help create these resources, we still maintain the highest degree of quality (see Door43:Content quality for more information). Instead of trying to preserve this quality by keeping it restricted for use by others, we want anyone, anywhere to be able to use Door43 content for any ministry purpose, but to do so in a way that maintains the integrity of the Door43 project. For this reason, we encourage anyone who wants to make modifications to Door43 content to do so on this website where the improvements can be incorporated for use by everyone. You are, of course, free to take the content and make whatever changes you want to apart from the Door43 website, but if you do so you are not permitted to use the name "Door43" since it is no longer subject to the checks and balances built into the Door43 process.Door43 branding
Door43 licenses the use of its logo (shown at the top left of this website) on the condition that the trademark licensee use the mark to point to the Door43 homepage, http://door43.org, and only to the Door43 homepage. Door43 retains full, unfettered, and sole discretion to revoke this trademark license for any reason whatsoever or for no specified reason.

Trademarks
Any of the trademarks, service marks, collective marks, design rights or similar rights that are mentioned, used or cited in Door43 content are the property of their respective owners. Their use here does not imply that you may use them for any other purpose other than for the same or a similar informational use as contemplated by the original authors of these Door43 articles under the CC-BY-SA licensing scheme. Unless otherwise stated Door43 is neither endorsed by nor affiliated with any of the holders of any such rights and as such Door43 cannot grant any rights to use any otherwise protected materials. Your use of any such or similar incorporeal property is at your own risk.As an author, you agree to be attributed in any of the following fashions: a) through a hyperlink (where possible) or URL to the article or articles you contributed to, b) through a hyperlink (where possible) or URL to an alternative, stable online copy which is freely accessible, which conforms with the license, and which provides credit to the authors in a manner equivalent to the credit given on this website, or c) through a list of all authors. (Any list of authors may be filtered to exclude very small or irrelevant contributions.)
Importing text:
If you want to import text that you have found elsewhere or that you have co-authored with others, you can only do so if it is available under terms that are compatible with the CC-BY-SA license.
If you import text under a compatible license which requires attribution, you must, in a reasonable fashion, credit the author(s). Where such credit is commonly given through page histories (such as Door43-internal copying), it is sufficient to give attribution in the edit summary, which is recorded in the page history, when importing the text. Regardless of the license, the text you import may be rejected if the required attribution is deemed too intrusive.
Information for re-users
You can re-use content from Door43 projects freely, with the exception of content that is used under "fair use" exemptions, or similar exemptions of copyright law. Please follow the guidelines below:
Re-use of text:
- Attribution: To re-distribute a text page in any form, provide credit to the authors either by including a) a hyperlink (where possible) or URL to the page or pages you are re-using, b) a hyperlink (where possible) or URL to an alternative, stable online copy which is freely accessible, which conforms with the license, and which provides credit to the authors in a manner equivalent to the credit given on this website, or c) a list of all authors. (Any list of authors may be filtered to exclude very small or irrelevant contributions.) This applies to text developed by the Door43 community. Text from external sources may attach additional attribution requirements to the work, which we will strive to indicate clearly to you. For example, a page may have a banner or other notation indicating that some or all of its content was originally published somewhere else. Where such notations are visible in the page itself, they should generally be preserved by re-users.
- Copyleft/Share Alike: If you make modifications or additions to the page you re-use, you must license them under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share-Alike License 3.0 or later.
- Indicate changes: If you make modifications or additions, you must indicate in a reasonable fashion that the original work has been modified. If you are re-using the page in a wiki, for example, indicating this in the page history is sufficient.
- Licensing notice: Each copy or modified version that you distribute must include a licensing notice stating that the work is released under CC-BY-SA and either a) a hyperlink or URL to the text of the license or b) a copy of the license. For this purpose, a suitable URL is: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/
- For further information, please refer to the legal code of the CC-BY-SA License.
Re-use of non-text media:
- Where not otherwise noted, non-text media files are available under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. Please view the media description page for details about the license of any specific media file.
