Ruins of the Temple of Aretmis in Ephesus
Article Sources:Easton's Bible Dictionary, Wikipedia
An ancient Greece city near the west coast of Asia Minor, near the present-day city of Selçuk, Turkey. In New Testament times, when the Romans ruled the world, Ephesus had a population of more than 250,000, which made it the second largest city in the world at that time. This was where the Temple of Artemis was located (see Acts 19.) The photo shows this temple as it looks today after being destroyed long ago. The Apostle Paul went there on his missionary journeys, and a strong church grew in that place. The Book of Ephesians was written by Paul to the believers in this church. It is also the first of the seven churches addressed in Revelation 2.
