Asia Minor refers to the part of the world now known as Turkey. It is situated along the northeast coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The Aegean Sea is on the west and the Black Sea on the north. It lies between Asia and Europe, making it almost like a bridge between these two large areas of the world. In New Testament times, there were cities along the south and west coasts of the country, including Miletus, Ephesus, Smyrna and Troas. Other cities were located away from the coasts, such as Tarsus, Derbe, Lystra, Iconium, Colossae, Laodicea and Philadelphia. The apostle Paul went to Asia Minor on his missionary journeys (see the book of Acts) and he preached in most of these cities.
