Door43:Looking ahead
From Door43
Door43 is starting out as a wiki and requires Internet access to use. Here are some of the ideas we are cooking up for later on.
Multimedia formats
In addition to text, we are recording audio and video versions of discipleship resources (e.g. Open Bible Translation, Open Bible Stories, Open Bible School, etc. These will be available as web downloads and also as in-app downloads (see below), as well as podcast/vodcast feeds for ease-of-use on mobile phones and media management software (e.g. iTunes).
Printing
We are using an extension to the MediaWiki engine that makes it easy to create collections of resources and export them all as a PDF for download, sending to others, and printing. In addition, we plan to test additional capabilities, such as sending collections directly to an on-line printer for on-demand printing of books of Door43 content. Need 3 (or 300) printed books of a resource on Door43? This extension makes it possible.
Mobile applications
The future of the web is mobile, especially in developing countries where PCs may never be widely used. Billions of people in the world today have a mobile phone and increasingly, those phones are "smarter" and able to connect to the Internet. We plan to develop an on-line experience optimized for mobile phones accessing Door43, as well as exporting the content of Door43 into formats easily usable on mobile phones. We envision a Bible study tool, on your mobile phone, in your language, with all the content of the Door43 website available without connecting to the Internet... that you can freely use, improve and give to your friends without any cost or legal concern.
What about you?
This is just the beginning of dreaming about the future of Door43. How about you? Use Door43 as a platform to build your ministry and help make disciples of all nations.
