Content Creators
We need lots of content! These are the projects where we're starting, but jump in anywhere.
Open Bible Translation
- We need people who can draft the translation, serve as consultant checkers, check and improve the notes for each chapter, document the key terms, etc.
Open Study Notes
- Seminary students, Bible school students and anyone who is digging into Biblical topics, consider putting your research in the study notes so all the world can benefit from your work. Using Public Domain commentaries and extracting what is essential (simplicity & immediate relevance are key) may be a good place to start.
Open Bible Stories
- We need help proof-reading and editing the Bible stories.
Open Bible School
- Open Bible SchoolCheck out the list of modules for the Bible school, review some of the ones that we've drafted, put on your teacher's hat and start drafting self-contained teaching modules. Use the Discussion page or the Talk pages of other users to get help and ideas.
Open Bible Handbook
- Feel free to start populating the Handbook. Wikipedia (uses the same license as Door43), Easton's Bible Dictionary and other Public Domain works are good places to start. What we need is for only the essential content to be extracted, merged together and presented in a format that takes a person who knows nothing about, say, "Bablyon" and in as few words as possible, brings them to a point where they know what they have to know about it in order to understand the Bible. We don't need all sorts of historical theories, conflicting viewpoints, etc. We need a theologically conservative, succinct (but with adequate detail) article on each topic.
- We need help with the Maps section of the Handbook. Specifically, we need help creating the ImageMaps so that clicking a place name on the map takes the person to the corresponding entry in the Open Bible Handbook for that place. Use this page to generate the image maps.
Open Christian Library
- An Open Devotional – The Open Devotional is (or will be) an original discipleship resource that provides a short devotional study on a verse or passage of Scripture for each day of the year. We need people who can write a devotional study (a few paragraphs in length) that brings out a Scriptural truth, focused on a verse or short passage of Scripture. Find out more on the Open Devotional page.
Open Worship Project
- We are looking for artists who can write worship songs for the Open Worship Project
Anything else – Feel free to jump in anywhere! Contact us or join us in the Forum if you have questions or need input.
Graphic Designers/Cartographers
- Maps for the Open Bible Handbook – It would be great to have an easy-to-read set of maps, maybe using different overlays to keep things simple but informative to geographically orient readers. Some readers from pre-literate cultures may not have ever used a map before, so clarity and simplicity are valuable here. A promising option for creating maps is the BibleMapper software (see http://biblemapper.com) which makes it so maps can be translated into any language and the maps themselves are freely reproducible, provided that attribution is given to BibleMapper for the map, which we are glad to do!
Programmers
- PHP/Javascript/XML programmers – If you can program PHP and/or Javascript and/or XML and want to help us take Door43 to the next level, please contact us. We would like to incorporate some customized WYSIWYG interfaces, especially in the Open Bible Translation project, outputting & parsing alternate markup, etc.
- Mobile application developers – Can you compile all the content of Door43 in a given language (e.g. English, Spanish, Swahili, etc.) into a functional mobile phone application with content links and multimedia intact? Sweet – show us what you've got! Think of it like this: church leaders in language groups around the world may not have any Bible, commentary, study curriculum, etc. in print, but they have (or will soon have) a mobile phone that can access the Internet. As free & open discipleship content gets translated into their language on Door43, we want to see a One-Touch-Export to mobile phone formats so they can have a searchable, mobile discipleship tool with them at all times. In their language. For free.
