Etherpad integration
A team of church planters in 3 Middle East countries is working together with advisors in their home countries and Arabic-speaking Christians in other countries to create a leadership development resource. In order to work together more efficiently, they set up times where they will all be online together, from all their different locations around the world.
Each user logs in to Door43 and browses to the page they are going to work on. Instead of clicking the "Edit" tab like they would if an individual was going to edit the page, they each click the tab for "Team Edit". Doing so brings each user to a page on the Door43 Etherpad service that enables all the people to work on the text of that page at the same time. The different users are indicated by different colors and each one has their own cursor. The Etherpad service lists each username currently editing that page and enables them to group chat (instant message) with the others editing the same page.
Using the instant message service, Skype and any other communication means they like, the team works together to edit the page. When they are done making changes, the "Save" button is clicked. This saves the text they have created to the page in Door43, automatically entering their usernames in the comments section.
Media Creation
In-browser audio recording
Julio has translated "The Compassionate Father" into Spanish and is ready to create an audio recording of the story. He logs in to Door43 using a computer in a local Internet cafe. He browses to the Spanish translation of the story and clicks the button that says "record this story". A page loads that enables him to click the "start recording" button and record himself speaking the story.
When he is finished, he clicks the "stop recording" button. He listens to the story and decides that he wants to try a second time, so he re-records the story. The second version is much better and he clicks the "upload to Door43" button. Once the upload is complete, he is redirected to the page on Door43 that has the uploaded media, e.g. http://es.door43.org/wiki/File:<filename>.mp3'.
In-browser video creation
Mikhail wants to create a video of "The Compassionate Father" in Russian. The story has been translated, the images to be used are included in the text, and the audio has already been recorded and uploaded to Door43. Mikhail is logged in and is on the page with the Russian translation of the story. He clicks the "create a video" button which loads the video editing page.
On the video editing page, he can start from scratch or choose to use a template from other languages that have the video completed. He chooses to use a template from the English version of the video. The template is stored on the English version of the wiki (using interwiki links) and, when selected, pre-populates the video creation interface with the images that were used in the English video, based on their filenames.
Mikhail sees that the video editing engine already correctly selected the audio track to use with the video so he clicks "play" and starts listening to the story and watching the images as they pan and zoom. Mikhail makes adjustments as needed, according to the audio track that is being used. He drags the border between two images to the left or right, as needed, to match the image transition with the story in the audio. The pan & zoom effect adjusts accordingly and after a second pass through the video to check the settings, he clicks "render". A few minutes later, the video is finished and he is able to download it in different formats and resolutions.
